Vincentian Prayer Images: Frederic Ozanam and Concern for Workers

by | Sep 8, 2020 | Formation, Reflections, Vincentian Family

Here is another in our series of “Praying Our Heritage.” The series illustrates quotes from key figures in the Vincentian Heritage.

Let the image and the quote sink in, and take root. These images might surprise you into prayer at various points in your day.

Pope John Paul II wrote of Blessed Frederic:

“Justice and charity…cannot be opposed. Ozanam himself praised daring measures for the betterment, in justice, of the living conditions of the rising working class. He was one of the great precursors of the social movement which culminated in the Encyclical Rerum Novarum. But he knew also that charity does not wait: it comes to the aid of the individual man who is suffering today.

The juxtaposition of Labor Day and the feast of Blessed Frederic can give us much to pray about.
  • Do I appreciate our rich Vincentian heritage exemplified in Frederic?
  • Do I pray that we live this heritage today?
