August 12: St. Louise’s Birthday

by | Aug 11, 2017 | Formation

St. Louise de Marillac was born on August 12, 1591. As we celebrate the 400th year of the Vincentian Charism, it is interesting to note that in 1617 while St. Vincent was busy laying the foundations of the Vincentian Family, St. Louise was 26 years old, married, and had a three-year-old son who would turn four in October 1617.

To quote an essay written by Sister Elisabeth Charpy, D.C.and Sister Louise Sullivan, D.C.:

It seemed to Louise that God wanted to constantly express His great love to humankind. The Incarnation […] manifested this great desire for union.

This one-minute video summarizes some of St. Louise’s thoughts on the theme of humility, and the Incarnation of the Son of God.
