1. We know how the story ends. “Jesus knew that his hour had come to pass from this world to the Father. He loved his own in the world and he loved them to the end” (Jn. 13:1). No matter where you are on the path of discernment, the passion-death-resurrection of Jesus assures you that God is forever faithful and that in the end, God always wins!
2. Call the Midwife Returns! “You just keep living … until you are alive again.”
Season Four of this PBS series began March 29. Based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth, the program offers a fascinating portrayal of the issues of women’s health in the slums of London’s East End following World War II. The Anglican nuns of Nonatus House are nurse midwives and they work side-by-side with a delightful crew of young laywomen who are learning the profession. Each episode contains at least one line worth remembering, like this one from last season when a young midwife wonders how she will ever endure the death of her boyfriend. The mother of one of her patients, herself a survivor of the Holocaust, assures her that she will make it through the grief. “You just keep living … until you are alive again.” And the last episode of Season Three is full of zingers for anyone discerning her life’s direction. Find it on Netflix!
Congratulations to Sr Meg Kymes for her part in the video on “Volunteers to Sisters”–well done!!
