Can You Say No to Pope Francis on September 1?

by | Aug 27, 2016 | Church, News, Pope

September 1, Pope Francis asks us to pray for creation.

Last year Pope Francis declared September 1st as the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation.

Pope Francis states that “The annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation offers…a precious opportunity to renew our personal participation in this vocation as custodians of creation, raising to God our thanks for the marvellous works that He has entrusted to our care, invoking his help for the protection of creation and his mercy for the sins committed against the world in which we live.” (Read his full letter here.)

This day of prayer has been extended into a “Season of Creation” that is celebrated by Christian communities around the globe, beginning on September 1 and ending on October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

This is needed more than ever.

We sadly continue to break records: June 2016 was declared to be the hottest June on record, completing a string 14 consecutive months of record-breaking heat. The climate crisis continues to get worse.

Join with our brothers and sisters from different Christian churches and networks  to unite the Christian family worldwide to care for creation during this important time.

What can you do?

Join together this Season of Creation in praying for and taking action on behalf of our common home.

  1. Attend or organize a prayer service on September 1 or sometime throughout the Season of Creation. You can visit the official website to see scheduled events or ideas to host your own prayer service. We are aiming for massive participation of Catholics to join Pope Francis.
  2. If you are on Facebook, invite friends to join the Facebook event for September 1st.
  3. Share the Pope Video on Facebook or on WhatsApp with the YouTube link.
