Sr. Alice O’Neill – Ministry in Motion

Alice Ann O’Neill , Sister of Charity of Cincinnati teaches Suzuki cello lessons at the their Motherhouse each week to students between the ages of 2 and 18. Sister Alice Ann O’Neill, SC, performs and teaches the cello, chamber music, string pedagogy, and Suzuki cello at the College of Mount St. Joseph in CIncinnati.

She received a Bachelor’s degree from Boston University in cello performance, a Master’s in performance and Suzuki pedagogy from Western Illinois University, and a doctorate in cello performance and string pedagogy from The Ohio State University.

She has performed in profession orchestras, in chamber ensembles, and as a soloist in Spain, Italy, estonia, England, Japan and throughout the United States and Canada.

Sister Alice is also co-director of the International Research Symposium on Talent Education, actively participates in pedagogical research, and coordinates the IRSTE symposiums and research projects.

From her member profile on the Suzuki Association of America….Dr. O’Neill has extensive teaching experience and specializes in the Suzuki method as a cello teacher trainer. She has taught many clinics and workshops concerning many aspects of pedagogy and presented at state and international education conferences. Her research articles have been published in The Journal of Research in Music Education, the American Suzuki Journal, and the Vincentian Heritage Journal. Her cello students have appeared on NPR’s “From the Top,” and won top prizes at the St. Paul’s String Quartet and Fischoff chamber music competitions. Several cello students of Dr. O’Neill have continued their studies at schools such as Rice University-Shepherd School of Music, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Cleveland Institute of Music, Catholic University of America, Aspen Music Festival, Meadowmount School of Music, Indiana University, Harvard University, and  the Juilliard School in New York City.

Currently, Dr. O’Neill is professor of cello, chamber music, string pedagogy, and performs in the faculty piano trio at the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is a member of the Catholic Sisters of Charity.
