The Rosalie Projects: Everything will be better now

by | Nov 23, 2024 | Daughters of Charity, News | 0 comments

Diouroup is a rural town south-east of Dakar in Senegal. The majority of the population lives below the poverty line. The Daughters of Charity arrived there in 2020 and, with the help of local social players (women’s association, parish council, town council), they are at the service of the poorest people regardless of race, sex or religion.

The Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Centre opened in October 2022 to provide access to the healthcare system for the most disadvantaged people in the region.

Thanks to your support for the ‘Everything will be better now’ project, the sisters have been able to set up a care and awareness programme, mainly for people affected by chronic and degenerative diseases.

Since the start of the year, this modest centre has welcomed 714 new adults and children, in addition to 402 adults and children who have been seen by appointment. A total of 1,116 children and adults have benefited from consultations and prescriptions.

Thanks to its orthopaedic and rehabilitation equipment, the centre offers functional re-education and rehabilitation exercise sessions, as well as therapeutic massage sessions for disabled children: 319 disadvantaged people have already benefited this year!

38 travelling consultations this year

The sisters were also able to provide home care in the villages for people unable to travel.

During these visits, they run information and prevention groups for the villagers on 2 key issues in the region:

– hygiene for all
– high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, to raise awareness, particularly among women cooks, of cardiovascular disease and its negative consequences (diabetes and high blood pressure due to a diet rich in salt, spices, sugar, etc.).

See the short video of an awareness-raising group in the village of Ndang:

“Yes, everything will be better now!
A big thank you to each of you and may the Lord repay you a hundredfold’.

With them, thanks to you!
