Sister Liz Sjoberg has built up a community charity run event for the Brownsville community almost single-handedly over the last 6 years, now called Sisters on the Run. She started by running as a single participant in other events, and in January 2024 will run her 4th marathon for Proyecto Juan Diego, and serve as race director for a brand-new chip-timed 5K in partnership with the Brownsville Fire Department.
Along the way, Sister Liz has raised over $55,000 for her program – an impressive total in the face of COVID-induced compassion fatigue and the polarized political discourse surrounding the Brownsville community. One year, Sister Liz exceeded her fundraising goal by more than $6,000.
In addition to running marathons, Sister Liz has trained new marathoners who ran with her, recruited sponsors, designed the course and more!
