Below is a video of a recent presentation by Bronwen McShea, scholar of 17th century religious and political history. Her presentation, “The Saint and the Duchess: Collaboration at the Heart of Vincentian Heritage,” was given as the inaugural Vincentian Heritage Lecture at St. John’s University. Bronwen McShea, M.T.S., Ph.D., is an historian, writer, speaker, and artist based in New York City. In the inaugural Vincentian Heritage Lecture at St. John’s University, she unveils the interesting relationship between St. Vincent de Paul and the powerful Duchess of Aguillon, niece of Cardinal Richelieu, amidst the religious and political turbulence of 17th-century France, the subject of her recent book, “La Duchesse.”
Dr. Mc Shea adds so much to our understanding of Vincent and his lay collaborators. This is a story of faith and synodality. Thank u ou for this wonderful “heritage” lecture.
