In his “Profile of a Lay Vincentian in the 21st Century,” former Superior General of the Congregation of the Mission, Robert P. Maloney, wrote:

“But the mission of the 21st-century Vincentian layperson will be based not merely on an energetic personality; it will be founded on a deep spirituality. Like St. Vincent, his lay followers will seek most of all to “put on the Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom 13:14). They will not simply know about Christ; they will have a personal experience of the Lord himself and they will absorb, as St. Vincent did, the key evangelical teachings of the Lord, especially simplicity, or passion for the truth, so that their yes means yes and their no means no.” (http://famvin.org/en/2012/03/01/profile-of-a-lay-vincentian-in-the-21st-century/)

Now, in a new book published by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Fr. Maloney teaches us all about “Vincent’s gospel”: simplicity.

Tis a gift to be simple‘TIS A GIFT TO BE SIMPLE
Living, Speaking and Praying Simply in the spirit of Vincent de Paul

by Robert Maloney, CM

As the years of St. Vincent’s life passed by, simplicity, or love of the truth, became more and more the star that guided him. St. Vincent wrote: “It is the virtue I love most.”  “It is my Gospel,” he said.  (Forward, p.4)
