Streubert was inaugurated as the seventh president of College of Saint Elizabeth during formal ceremonies on the Morristown, N.J., campus today. Streubert, who joined CSE on July 1, 2013, is the first lay president in the 115 year history of the College. She succeeds Sister Francis Raftery, president from 1997-2013.

Dignitaries from academia, including presidents of neighboring Drew and Fairleigh Dickinson Universities, government officials, the Sisters of Charity, as well as family members, faculty, staff and students from the campus community joined in celebrating the historic moment. Events throughout the week – from service projects to leadership training, sporting games and a scholarship dinner – helped pull the campus together for the special day.

“Today, I commit to live, learn and lead among those who are family to the College of Saint Elizabeth and support them in their dreams and aspirations,” said Streubert after her investiture by Sister Rosemary Moynihan, SC,  Chair of the Board of Trustees of the College. “I am a deep believer that our compassionate creator has a plan for us and that if we listen, really listen, God’s plan will be unveiled and for that reason and that reason alone, I stand before you today to be included as the College of Saint Elizabeth’s seventh president. I have been entrusted with advancing our mission and values as we carve out our continuing place in the higher education landscape…I am grateful for this privilege.”

The traditions and values upon which the College was founded in 1899 by the Sisters of Charity will remain the cornerstone for future plans. “We have a rich history at the College of leading and leadership…Central to what we have to offer as a community is rooted in our service to others,” Streubert explained. “I invite you to join us in our journey…to walk with us as we move forward and to be part of our vision and purpose within the great legacy of service and justice that has made this great institution what it is for 115 years…”

Streubert will use her extensive background in education to guide CSE which today educates more than 1,500 students in the daytime women’s college as well as coeducational evening and weekend programs for adult undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students. She comes to CSE from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX., where she was the vice president of academic affairs.

She holds a doctoral degree from Teacher’s College, Columbia University, New York, N.Y., a master of science in nursing from Villanova University, Villanova, Pa., and a bachelor of science from Cedar Crest College, Allentown, Pa. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of Franklin Pierce University, Rindge, N.H., and the Cancer Center Council of the Cancer Research and Treatment Center of the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX.
