In the Spirit of St. Vincent de Paul, the mission of the Colorado Vincentian Volunteers (CVV) is to invite young adults into a process of transformation through companionship with people who live in poverty and are marginalized. CVV is a community of faith and action that responds to the Gospel call in the spirit of St. Vincent de Paul. CVV invites young adults, ages 21-30, to serve and accompany the elderly, people experiencing homelessness, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, youth and those who are living in poverty. Our year-long program offers an opportunity for spiritual, emotional, professional growth, and a way of discerning and living one’s Christian vocation.

Purpose of Position:
Compelled by a faith-filled call to service and justice, the Colorado Vincentian Volunteers (CVV) Executive Director (ED) helps guide a process of companionship with those who live in poverty and are marginalized. The CVV mission embraces the mutuality of this companionship, and we trust that those who are served are teaching each of us something that becomes transformative. As a unique experience in the Catholic and Vincentian tradition, the ED will collaborate with staff, full-time young adult volunteers, local community volunteers, placement sites and donors to fulfill this mission. Through this ministry, the ED is challenged to be a catalyst for change, to take a leap of faith, and together become Companions on the Journey.
Reports to: The ED works together in mutual relationship with CVV staff and is accountable to the CVV Board of Directors.
Responsibilities Include:
Organizational and Staff Development:
- CVV is committed to more fully realizing its mission through diversity, equity, and inclusion in its faith formation and organizational development. The ED is responsible for leading this work through collaboration with the Board of Directors, internal committees, and staff. As an organization, CVV honors leadership that is inclusive, transparent, and collaborative with shared decision-making.
- The ED facilitates and supports a staff team in a culture that embodies CVV’s mission and Vincentian charism. This includes development of individual staff members’ gifts, professional and pastoral development, collaborative program development, and overseeing hiring and ongoing supervision for all positions.
Program and Faith Formation:
- With staff, develop and implement a plan for spiritual formation for volunteers (orientation, weekly Gospel-based reflection, discussions, retreats, guest presenters, liturgies, community prayers, immersion trips, spiritual direction, etc.) grounding volunteers in the mission and goals of CVV with a preferential option for the marginalized.
- Support staff in facilitating and evaluating reflection on intersections of diversity, equity, and inclusion and the Vincentian charism with the volunteer community.
- Support staff and volunteers in the creation of an intentional living community that cultivates a sense of belonging through which the volunteers support one another on their journeys. This includes supporting community meetings, developing and implementing mental health supports, conducting individual meetings with volunteers, and responding to the needs of the volunteers individually and communally through an equitable lens.
- Recruit, interview, screen, and select volunteer candidates in collaboration with CVV staff and alumni volunteers.
- Collectively with staff, cultivate and maintain relationships with community colleges, universities, parishes, local agencies, community organizations, and other partnerships to promote and invite a mindset of direct service and engage prospective volunteers. This includes hosting college immersion trips.
- Develop and oversee the program schedule and living needs for the volunteers, including health insurance, room and board, transportation, etc. with staff.
- Facilitate the development and coordination of current and new volunteer work sites to serve agency and volunteer needs, and work with agency supervisors on volunteer issues.
- With staff and identified leaders, facilitating involvement of alumni in programmatic support and activities.
- Maintain and build on partnerships with and participate in activities in support of the CVV program with the Congregation of the Mission of the Western Province, MISEVI USA and International (Vincentian lay volunteer programs), Catholic Volunteer Network, local volunteer programs, neighborhood organizations, the Colorado Vincentian Family, and others.
Organizational Administration and Facility Management:
- Represent the staff to the Board of Directors and its Committees and attend Board and Committee meetings. The Board has regularly scheduled quarterly meetings, an annual retreat, and special meetings as needed.
- Develop, with the Treasurer of the Board, an annual budget for CVV and direct CVV’s day-to-day activities within it.
- With the Management Committee, oversee and revise organizational policies and procedures (accounting and financial policies, insurance, benefits, workers compensation, sick leave, staff compensation, staff roles and positions, etc.).
- Direct day-to-day operations within the above procedures, with an ongoing commitment to inclusive and equitable processes and the requirements of the law.
- With staff and dedicated volunteers, manage and maintain physical plant of the CVV properties and retain outside contractors as necessary for maintenance and repair.
- Oversee all fiscal and HR operations, policies, and procedures – including health insurance, PTO, etc. Ensures the organization complies with all applicable regulations; making changes as necessary.
Public Relations and Fundraising:
- Oversee public relations and development, sharing CVV’s impact and volunteers’ journeys of transformation and witnessing the mission with the broader community.
- Plan and implement a fundraising and development plan in alignment with CVV’s budgeted general operating costs. Oversee plan with Board and Staff including grant-writing, special events, direct asks, newsletters, social media and website messaging, and stewardship of individual relationships.
- Cultivate the participation of the broader CVV community including donors, prayer families, administrative volunteers, building maintenance, speakers, alumni event leaders, and others who help CVV function through gifts of time and talent.
- With staff, maintain fundraising websites (Guide Star and Colorado Gives) and other updated sources of CVV’s registration.
- Seek and apply to new grants and funding opportunities, create and submit grant reports for current funders, and cultivate relationships with funders, foundations, parishes and local businesses.
Requirements:
- Lived understanding of Colorado Vincentian Volunteers’ core values, including recent involvement in direct service with marginalized communities
- Master’s Degree, post graduate work, or equivalent work experience in organizational leadership and/or nonprofit management
- Familiarity with and willingness to promote Catholic faith and Vincentian charism
- Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
- A collaborative and relationship-building mindset
- Prior pastoral, faith formation, and/or community development experience preferred, in particular with young adults
- Prior experience with staff supervision and support
- Strong proficiency with internet research, Google Docs and Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required; professional experience with social media applications and web content management systems a plus
- Strong oral and written communication skills that demonstrate the ability to quickly produce clear, compelling written messaging and communicate professionally and equitably with a wide range of stakeholders
- Ability to manage shifting priorities with flexibility while meeting tight deadlines in a demanding environment
Complex project planning and time management skills across multiple entities - Experience with multi-tiered long-range planning
Physical demands of the position:
- Working in an office with stairs only access
- Participating in retreats in the Rocky Mountains
- Ability to climb stairs and move furniture
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Compensation Range: $80,000-$90,000
Approximate time required by position: 40 hours weekly on average, including some evenings and weekends. Schedule flexibility and some in-state and out-of-state travel required.
Time off: Accrued at rate of 1.5 days/month
Compensation: Benefits available include health, dental, life and disability insurance, retirement plan and a competitive retirement match. Eligibility begins the first day of the month after hire. Financial support for professional development annually. Mileage reimbursement for work-related travel.
