The 8th of July began with the celebration of the Eucharist which was presided by Father Tomaž MAVRIČ, Superior general, together with the Vicar-General, Father Gregorio BAÑAGA, and with Aarón GUTIÉRREZ, Assistant General. During the celebration, the Superior General and the Vicar-General made a profession of faith and took an oath of fidelity as they take on their respective responsibilities. The delegates offered prayer for the Superior General and the members of his Council.

Then at 10:00 hours the session began with the invocation of the Holy Spirit, asking for guidance with regard to the decisions that are to be made. There was a presentation of the Province of India-South about the social promotion of women.

After the reading and the approval of the minutes and some brief announcements the Superior General of the Company of the Daughters of Charity, Sister Françoise PETIT, addressed the Assembly via Zoom … her words were greatly appreciated and the delegates expressed their gratitude with an extended applause.

After a break, the remainder of the session was dedicated to the study of the various Postulata which had been presented to the Assembly.

After lunch, at 15:30 hours, the afternoon session began with the invocation of Mary: Oh Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you. Several delegates, after having been confined to their rooms with COVID-19, were welcomed to the Assembly Hall.

The moderator then announced that Father Daniel PILARIO has been appointed to the Dicastery for the Unity of Christians and Ecumenical Dialogue … the delegates greeted this news with applause and promises of support.

During the afternoon, the delegates worked together in linguistic groups and followed the outline as found in the Instrumentum Laboris. The groups were tasked with concretizing action steps which were to be submitted to the Synthesis Commission. This session concluded with Evening Prayer.
