Despite COVID-19, children in need continue to be assisted in Cuba

The needs of humankind will never exhaust the resources of the God’s grace!

The project on behalf of children at a social disadvantage, 27 pieces of bread from the Miraculous Mother, came into existence on June 3, 2016. This program serves children between the ages of 1-12 who lack proper nourishment (an important need for children at that age) and provides them with a formation in virtue and values that will enable them to become good men and women.

Another motivation to begin this project was the closing of the mission of the Daughters of Charity in the Diocese (June 23, 2019). The Sisters had accompanied us for sixty-one years and the members of the Team that had been serving Jesus present in the poor wanted to continue to give life to the Vincentian charism and teachings which, thanks to the Sisters, had nurtured our faith.

This year, as we celebrate our Fifth Anniversary, we give thank to God for assisting us. This presence of God was revealed in the generosity of many sisters and brothers who, sensitive to the difficult reality of the children, contributed to our efforts.

As the pandemic began, we held a series of workshops which enabled the Team and volunteers to reach out not only to the children but also to their families. We also looked for ways to take these children on trips to places which would have been very difficult for them to visit. These children have become an important element in our prayer life.

On the occasion of each child’s birthday (a day which is most important for children) we celebrate this event with them. At the same time we are able to distribute to the children some clothing and shoes and on the 27th of each month we also deliver food baskets to the families.

What a happiness, Sisters, to serve the person of Our Lord in His poor members! (CCD:IX:96).

We greet you in Christ and in Saint Vincent
