St. Louise de Marillac: Compelled By the Love of Christ

by | Feb 14, 2021 | Formation

“Guided by a saint [Vincent], Louise had gradually discovered the paternal love of God for her. Peace and confidence had quieted her agitated soul. She had come to realize, as she spent her energies in serving the poor, that despite her weaknesses and complexes, she was called to bring this love of the Father to others.”

– from the article “The Spirituality of Louise de Marillac: Moved by the Spirit to Charity” by Sr. Louise Sullivan, D.C.

The crest of the Daughters of Charity is a heart encompassed by flames, with a crucifix surrounded by the motto: “Caritas Christi Urget Nos” 2 Cor 5:14, meaning “The Love of Christ Urges Us”.
