Peru Faces Multiple Natural Disasters

by | Feb 7, 2017 | Disasters and Responses, News

In spite of everything, today is a favorable day.

Peru has been hit by heavy rains. Several parts of the national territory have been affected. For this chronicle we will take as reference Lima, capital city, located in the central coast.

I.- SOUTH OF LIMA

Cities like Arequica, Pisco, Chincha and Ica have been hit by heavy rains. Many sections of the road are interrupted by the “huaycos” (fall of rocks, mud and other objects of the hills). Many people have lost everything.

III.- THE NORTH OF LIMA

Piura, Chiclayo and Tumbes have suffered intense rains. The strongest of the last 25 years. The drains (sewage) of Chiclayo have collapsed. The water in some areas of the city exceeds 75 centimeters in height. We are facing emergency.

IV.- AND THE VINCENTIAN FAMILY?

To the extent of the possibilities the Vincentian Family is loving God with the effort of his arms and the sweat of his brow. In general, the Vincentian Family is meeting the needs with the collection and distribution of food, water, clothing and working tools. The Daughters of Charity and the Congregation of the Mission have arranged that some of their schools or farms to be collection centers for later distribution. The members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Marian Vincentian Youth and the other lay branches support with this work.

These are hard times. But as the believers know, today is a favorable day.

We entrust to your prayers.
