SOC KC Spring Break

Opportunities for hospitality/short term volunteering in the K.C. metro area are taken advantage of by several groups of enthusiastic university students during their spring breaks.  Seven young women from Creighton U., Omaha, Nebraska served in Vincentian related ministries while enjoying hospitality at Xavier House from March 5 – 12, 2016. Along with serving each day they also participated in community living – cooking and praying.

March 17 – 24, 2016 found 10 young men and women from Marquette U., Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in K.C. serving at Restart – a homeless shelter. Xavier House provided hospitality for the students with the assistance of the parish rectory for the young men.  Besides cooking and praying with the Xavier community one day they contributed to the natural beauty of our yard.

K.C.s Xavier House is an intentional community, an inviting home, committed to hospitality for short term volunteer groups from colleges and universities, women discerning religious life and People of Hope – a group of young people doing ministry in the K.C. metro area.  The house is a ministry of the Sister of Charity of Leavenworth in the tradition of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louise de Marillac and Mother Xavier Ross, foundress of the community.
