Twenty-six Catholic sisters in a Jewish Nursing Home?

by | Dec 5, 2014 | Sisters of Charity, Vincentian Family

Can twenty-six Catholic sisters in a Jewish Nursing Home find happiness? I personally never thought this would be something I would ever ask, much less find an answer to. Hint: the residents are learning from each other. The three minute video offers fascinating insights.

Faced with financial pressures the Sisters of Charity of New York took what many would describe as a drastic step… closing their own nursing facility and moving into a local Jewish-sponsored home. Jewish Home LifeCare.

Thanks to New Evangelization Television (NET) and the reporting of  Currents reporter Konrad Aderer who visits with the retired Sisters of Charity in their new home in the Bronx.

New Evangelization Television (NET) is a Catholic network that features news and programming on a local level.

Launched as the Prayer Channel in 1988, the network was renamed New Evangelization Television in 2008. NET TV’s programs are available in the New York area on Time Warner Cable 97 and Cablevision 30, and nationally on Verizon FiOS on Demand.

NET TV is part of DeSales Media Group, the communications arm of the Diocese of Brooklyn, which publishes news and information with a Catholic point of view. Other DeSales properties include The Tablet, a Catholic weekly newspaper serving Brooklyn and Queens since 1908; Nuestra Voz, a Spanish-language weekly newspaper; and Catholic Telemedia Network, which provides curriculum-based instructional media resources for educators in the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens.
