We are launching our 2022 Impact Report, which looks back at our lifesaving work last year in seven countries across the world and through our global partnerships with the Ruff Institute of Global Homelessness (IGH) and Famvin Homeless Alliance (FHA).
Overall, we supported 134,440 people in 2022, including making 627,098 bed nights available and providing 10,915,903 meals, which includes our response to the war in Ukraine. Explore the 2022 Impact Report here or watch this video below for a taster of all we have achieved.
In the report, we share the stories of those supported by the Depaul Group. People like Andrew, who received a home of his own via Depaul Slovakia’s Housing First project, and Alex, who was supported by Depaul UK’s emergency accommodation service, Nightstop. It is thanks to the dedication of our staff and volunteers, as well as the generosity of our supporters, that we were able to support people like Andrew and Alex, and thousands of others globally.
In a joint statement, Matthew Carter OBE, Depaul International Group CEO, Mark McGreevy OBE, President of the Depaul Group, and Helen O’Shea, Chair of Trustees reflected on 2022:
“2022 demonstrated the international strength and maturity of the Depaul Group in its ability to address the multiple threats of global homelessness. Care for homeless people in the post-Covid world, coupled with the ever-growing numbers of refugees and displaced persons, demanded new responses from Depaul subsidiaries. In parallel, the Depaul Group worked tirelessly and collaboratively to support those affected by the war in Ukraine.”
Highlights of the difference we have made:
- Depaul USA ran 18 housing initiatives in 2022, successfully moving 203 individuals from homelessness into permanent housing.
- Depaul Slovakia provided over 73,000 overnight stays in 2022. Since the founding of Depaul Slovakia in 2006, over a million overnight stays have been provided through their accommodation services.
- Depaul Ukraine opened new day centres in all the regions it operates in. Across the country, there were over 107,000 day centre and outreach visits. At the centres, people received aid such as food, as well as psychosocial support to help cope with the trauma of war.
- Depaul Croatia ran bespoke programmes to help their clients develop employability skills. In 2022, they ran three social enterprise programmes, with 751 work hours being completed throughout the year.
- Depaul Ireland 2022 was a milestone year for Depaul Ireland as they commemorated 20 years in service. Since its foundation in 2002, Depaul Ireland has provided life changing support to over 40,000 people, helping those who are marginalised and experiencing homelessness in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
- Depaul UK supported 740 people via its vital accommodation services in 2022. New services were opened in the London Borough of Sutton and Haringey, providing supported accommodation for young people in care and for adults with complex needs.
- Depaul France In 2022 Depaul France supported 437 people, the highest number ever, as it was the first full year of its Mobil’douche service in Avignon. The Mobil’douche is a mobile shower service for people living on the street.
- IGH continued to expand its Vanguard Program, which sees cities taking concrete actions to prevent, reduce and end homelessness. They welcomed their first Vanguard country to the initiative: Uruguay.
- FHA held their second international conference, ‘Accompanying the Journey of a Refugee.’ The conference focused on refugees, internally displaced people, and survivors of human trafficking. 120 people from 20 countries attended the conference.
