Centenary Celebration of CM’s Presence in India and the Feast of St. Vincent de Paul at Janampet, Eluru

The feast of St. Vincent de Paul, the Founder of the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentian Priests and Brothers) was solemnly celebrated on September 27th, (5.30 pm, at the Vincentian College, Janampet, Eluru). That celebration also commemorated the 100th anniversary of the presence of the Congreation in India as well as the Silver Jubilee of the establishment of Southern Indian Province of the Congregation of the Mission. The Eucharist was presided over by Very Rev. Fr. Bala, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Eluru, together with the presence of Rev. Fr. Babu George, the Chancellor of the diocese, Rev. Fr. Louis, the President of CRI Eluru, Fr. Francis CM, the Rector of CM College, Vincentian priests and brothers from neighboring communities and many other religious priests, sisters and brothers actively participated in the celebration.

During the homily, Rev. Fr. Bala VG spoke about the significance of going back to the origin of the founder’s Charism and vision by becoming preachers of God’s Kingdom. He also mentioned the Vincentians’ apostolate and their effective contribution in terms of the many forms of charity that is offered to the poor and needy in the Diocese of Eluru. The celebration of the Eucharist was followed by a gathering in which there was a brief video presentation on the history St. Vincent de Paul and Congregation’s presence in India. Rev. Fr. Babu George the chancellor addressed the gathering and expressed his sincere gratitude to all the pioneer Vincentians for their ministry and service in the Diocese of Eluru.

In addition, the Vincentian College organized a Bible competition called SCRIPTURA on the 25th of September in honor of the centennial celebration. On the feast of St. Vincent, the winners were awarded cash prizes and mementos. More than 125 participants took part in the celebration. The celebration concluded with sharing a meal together.
