New life at the Brothers of Charity

by | Sep 2, 2021 | News

Twenty-three young men were accepted into the Congregation of the Brothers of Charity to start their novitiate formation on August 28, 2021. The Superior General, Brother René Stockman, guided them for a week in preparation for taking the habit, which took place at the International Novitiate in Nairobi, Kenya. The 23 novices hail from DR Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and Sri Lanka. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the postulants from Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, and India were not allowed to travel, so the group was temporarily reduced to candidates from Africa and one from Sri Lanka.

In addition, 16 novices entered the final stage of their religious formation in Ndera, Rwanda, in preparation for their first profession, which is scheduled for the end of February 2022.

As Brothers of Charity, we are happy to welcome young people into our ranks every year. The charism of charity, which started with the Founder, the Servant of God, Peter Joseph Triest, is still going strong in 30 countries today. At the same time, we can report that the process for the beatification of the Founder in Rome is going well and we expect the conclusion of the Roman phase very soon, after which, if the outcome is positive, the Pope can declare Triest venerable as the first definitive step towards beatification.
