In today’s multicultural and pluralistic world, the word seems to have lost its power and yet at the same time that same word, through the multiplication of the means of communication, also appears to have grown “louder” than ever before in the history of humankind. So also silence seems to have lost its “right to be.” In the world of noise and a multitude of unnecessary words, the spiritual silhouette of the human person is lost and, above all, God is drowned out. Yes, God’s word, which became flesh in the person of Jesus Christ, appears to have become drowned out by so many other words. Let us, then, turn to the Lord in the quiet and trustful prayer of our hearts and ask for the restoration of silence in today’s world.
