Information on the Vincentian Youth Encounter in Panama, January 2019

by | Oct 13, 2018 | News, Vincentian Marian Youth

Just three months before this EJV Panama 2019, we share, together with this message, the program of the meeting, both for those who will participate and for those who can help us to disseminate this information.

The registration deadline for our meeting is November 27, 2018.

Grateful for everything you do.

Fraternally

The Preparatory Commission of the EJV and JMJ, Panama 2019

To the National Councils, And the Groups of Vincentian Family Dear Family:

May the Grace of the Lord be always with us

There are only three months left for us to meet here in Panama. All of us who are collabrating in the preparation of this meeting, we are very happy to know that very soon, a large number of vincentians (volunteers and pilgrims), we will be united to celebrate our faith, to discover even more our Vincentian charism, to strengthen the bonds between the different branches and to complete our pilgrimage by uniting ourselves with other young Christians at the World Youth Day.

As the dates approach, we know that many of you have new concerns, especially of a practical nature, that’s why we send you this circular with some recommendations:

Payment EJV JMJ

In our previous statement we have indicated that the total payment of the event would be $ 302.00 per person, (Package A1 JMJ $ 230.00 + solidarity fund JMJ $ 12.00 + EJV $ 60.00) Unfortunately WYD has informed us that the payment of $ 12.00 per pilgrim must be made directly to the Dicastery in Rome by credit card and they do not allow us to do so from Panama, (the countries that have already made their payment and that obtained the discount of WYD you do not have to worry about this, the payment is done).

When we register them, WYD will automatically generate a document to indicate how much the delegation should pay to. Per pilgrim’s package and b. For solidarity fund. We will cancel the payment of the pilgrim’s package and we will send you the document of how to pay the solidarity fund and the total that corresponds to deposit with the Dicastery in Rome.

Accommodation

During the Vincentian Youth Encounter, we will all be gathered in one place, in Panama we do not have many places for events of such magnitude, but we have found a non-Catholic camp, with capacity for approximately 1,300 people but it has its internal regulations which we have to respect, said regulation will be delivered to them upon arrival, for now we will mention 3 aspects that, if violated, require greater sanctions by the administration and that we must all be very clear about:

  • The use or possession of any legal or illegal drugs (alcohol, cigarettes, etc.) is not allowed.
  • Dances and Scandals are not allowed
  • Music that is not Christian is not allowed. (We have permission for folklore)

During WYD, according to what the organization has informed us, we will be assigned by linguistic groups, to facilitate the transfer towards catechesis and other activities.

The Vincentian Family does not have spaces, with capacity to accommodate people, we have scarcely a parish in the capital and the houses of the Daughters of Charity are already full. The countries that need accommodation outside those dates, EXCLUSIVELY FOR AVAILABILITY OF FLIGHTS, must communicate it before November 27 to: registro.ejv2019@gmail.com, after that date unfortunately we will not be able to help them.

Transport:

The EJV only has scheduled transportation from Parroquia Santa María in Balboa to San Carlos on January 18 and back to the city on January 21. There is a metro and metro-bus system with which you can get to the Parish.

In our last circular in December we will detail the different ways to get to the Parish from the airport.

During WYD, each pilgrim will receive his transportation voucher to move around the city by public transport.

The Weather

The weather in Panama is quite hot, especially at this time of year. The camp in San Carlos is very close to the beach so there is a lot of humidity. The city of Panama has an average relative humidity of 75% and an average temperature of 27 ° C, with absolute maximums of up to 39 ° C and minimums of 20 ° C. We recommend coming with light luggage, without forgetting the essential items:

What do we need to take to EJV?

  • Bedding (you can use your sleeping bag if you prefer)
  • Towel
  • Swim Wear
  • Flip Flops
  • Sports Shoes
  • Clothing for warm weather
  • Personal Hygiene Items
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect Repellent
  • Personal Medications

What do we need to take to the vigil during WYD?

For reasons of space, we will NOT be able to carry tents. We must go light, carrying only:

  • Our Pilgrim’s Backpack
  • Sleeping Back
  • Mat
  • Water
  • Sun protection cream
  • Cap or Hat

The rest of our luggage will be left at the accommodation places. If necessary, on the night of the 27th we will be able to sleep in the accommodation places.

What should we do if we want to participate in the EJV Folklore?

A very easy, just have to send an email to: rold42@hotmail.com briefly describing what your presentation. The time for presentation is 5 minutes per delegation, strictly speaking they should be folkloric presentations of the country, not promotional tourism videos. The quotas will be open until November 30, 2018.

Liturgy

During the EJV an international choir will be formed for the central acts. If you want to be part of the choir and even if you can bring instruments, send us an email, before November 27, to: liturgiaejv2019@gmail.com and tell us what your collaboration consists of (song, instrument)

It is important that each delegation bring 2 flags of their country for the liturgical celebrations (the ideal size would be about 90cm x 60cm).
