Time flies, faster than we would like, and in Alhucemas we are aware that we have only a day and a half left. We begin to review every day, to pray about our experience, to ask ourselves if it will please God and what fruit it will give. We doubt whether we gave everything we could in our experience, if we put all our energy in helping our brother or sister. We are aware of our limitations and our short time here, but we aspire to do our utmost to build the Kingdom of God in the land of evangelization. There is still one day, full of moments of prayer, service, accompanying the community that is here with us and the community that prays in our homes. We feel you, and we are very grateful for your prayer; in brief you have us at home recounting our experience.
Day 12
In Nador feelings arise; we try to make the most of the time we have left to share as much as possible with the people around us. As every morning, we continue to accompany the Delegation of Migrations on the medical route and we find the harsh reality that each of them lives. It is difficult to imagine their day to day life, how they coexist with their pains in unfavorable conditions and without possibility of immediate medical assistance.
On the other hand, the team that stayed in the houses, with the kids who have more serious conditions and recover there, took the opportunity to chat with them and share life stories. We taught them Spanish and we laughed a lot together, played cards and painted mandalas while listening to the music they chose. It is such a quiet and cozy environment that one can not think that from one moment to another that lifestyle will end and they will return to their tents among the trees.
In Dar-Hairia the ties have become very close and it has been very emotional to celebrate our farewell with them. Between dances, laughter, balloons and candies we glimpse eyes flooded with joy and illusion. God continues to give us priceless moments, our minds are fiolled with images and names that we add to our daily prayer, we know they are in your prayer too. Leaving Nador will be hard, but we will do it with the strength and hope we have seen in each and every one of the people we have met here.
Day 13
Today in Nador is the last day that we climb to the camps. The day dawns with a farewell smell. Around Nador there are many camps divided by zones, usually we go to the Carrier, where each camp is identified by the name of the boss.
Today we approach Chef Moussa, accompanied by Lara, of the Delegation of Migration, who treats the difficulties related to emotions. We begin with a dynamic of relaxation, which for a moment makes us forget the reality that surrounds us. We are struck by the involvement of all those present, who immediately get into the dynamic with Lara’s explanations. After this, they wrote a letter about how they felt and how they look in the future.
Through these letters we discover boys of only 15 years, computer geeks, who dream of continuing to study in the university… we leave with the certainty that the line that separates their life from ours is tremendously diffuse and that often is only question of luck.
And finally the last day in Alhucemas arrives, the kids are not aware but tomorrow, early in the morning, we will depart. We feel tired, we feel like coming home, but we look their faces and we feel like staying a few more days. We have lots of experiences and faces in our hearts. It has been a lot of information for the short time we have been, all the stories, looks….
We are very grateful for the welcome of the Brothers of the White Cross, Daughters of Charity, Vincentian Fathers and all those people who have opened their homes and heart to us. We are sure that we are going back home different.
