Environmental Week Emphasizes Sustainability

The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth at Nazareth Convent High School, Vasai, celebrated World Environment Day by organizing an energetic Environment Week. The experience was packed with activities aimed at promoting sustainability among students and society.

Monday: The need to turn off lights, fans, and faucets when not in use has been highlighted.

Tuesday: The focus was on eliminating all forms of plastic usage.

Wednesday: Students observed a vegetarian day, enjoying three vegetarian meals.

Thursday: Various activities were conducted for different classes:

  • Grades 5 & 6: Poster-making on environmental themes.
  • Grade 7: Crafting paper bags to reduce plastic consumption.
  • Grade 8: Creating paper envelopes from recycled materials.
  • Grades 9 & 10: Writing slogans in multiple languages based on the theme, “Our Land, Our Future.”

Friday: A grand assembly focused on environmental awareness. Students performed a play highlighting drought-affected districts in Maharashtra and the impact of deforestation in Mumbai and Palghar, emphasizing the need for remedial measures to restore our planet.

Additionally, a cycle rally was conducted to promote green fuels and the importance of eco-friendly practices. A compost pit was established on the school premises, encouraging students to bring biodegradable waste from home. A tree-planting initiative was also launched, with students actively participating by bringing saplings. Informative charts on environmental conservation were prominently displayed on school bulletin boards throughout the week.

The Environment Week at Nazareth Convent High School, Vasai, was a vibrant culmination of activities, successfully reminding everyone of their significant role in ensuring the sustainability of our planet. Around 100 trees will be planted next Friday in Vasai to further green the city.
