Sisters in India and Nepal find many ways to connect with and serve children in their communities through educational opportunities and celebration. Here are a few recent events that highlight efforts to help students thrive, learn and stay connected:

Literacy Day in Bind Toli

Sister Kiran shares how Literacy Day was celebrated in the village of Bind Toli on Sept. 8, 2023, with Ambedker Prema Dal children. The function started with a procession around the village with children holding placards and shouting slogans on the importance of education. It was gladdening to see how their parents encouraged them to join the procession, Sister Kiran shared. The parents stood on the streets, clapping for the students and cheering them on.

After the procession, the children gathered at the “Anganwadi’ building, where a small program was held for them. The Ward Member, Mrs. Vina Devi, was the chief guest of the event. At the end of the program, the children went home happily.

Parent-Teacher Meeting in Chaibasa

Also on Sept. 8, a Parents and Teachers meeting was held at St. Xavier’s Middle School in Lupungutu, Chaibasa. There were 550 parents present. Many important topics were discussed, such as the importance of education, character building of students, health issues of the students, the role of parents and demands of the education department, etc. The meeting was very successful, shares Sister Paulina Kerkett.
