“Let us nurture nature to have a nurturing future.”
As active living creatures on Earth, we need to be aware of our activities to protect Mother Earth to preserve it for the future. To bring this awareness among the students, World Environment Day was celebrated in Nazareth Convent High School, Vasai (India), on June 23, 2023. On this occasion, the Science club organized a cultural and educational program based on the 2023 theme of “Beat Plastic Pollution.”
The students displayed a street play on the consequences of using plastic materials or articles on a daily basis. The children proudly sang the Environmental Day Anthem and pledged to avoid the use of plastic. The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth (SCN) encouraged the students to make the campus a plastic-free zone by using tiffin boxes and water bottles made of steel. Activities such as making decorative cloth and eco-friendly bags for the students will be conducted on the bagless day/activity day.
The school’s bulletin boards were decorated with various thought-provoking quotes, drawings, pictures and suggestions for retaining the purity and originality of our ‘Mother Earth.’ The students of grade X and teachers organized a rally with placards raising the slogans to eradicate plastic to protect the environment.
They enacted a street play portraying the plastic on earth and the ways of minimizing its usage. It brought awareness to the passer-by and the people living in the multistory apartments.
The day ended with happy smiles and contentment of bringing awareness to beat plastic pollution amongst the students and the neighborhood. The SCNs felt that today’s program made a difference in the lives of children and locals.
