Nazareth Academy Alumni Gather in Kentucky, Ignite Memories and Inspire Futures

It was a meeting of hearts and minds as 19 former students of Nazareth Academy came together in the small town of Nazareth, Kentucky. From all parts of the United States, these students were pulled together by Sister Roselyn Karakattu for a special reunion.

Nazareth Academy is a long-standing school in Gaya, India, yet its founders, the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, started their journey here in Kentucky in 1812. The students, who graduated in different years, were eager to share updates about their lives and fond memories of their time at the school.

The Sisters who once taught and guided these students were also present, adding a sense of nostalgia and depth to the occasion. Through Sister Roselyn and her peers, the former students learned about the ongoing work of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. They still serve those in need, reminding the alumni of the values they learned at school.

One emotional highlight of the gathering was a visit to the cemetery. Here, they laid flowers on the graves of their former teachers, a small but heartfelt tribute to the women who had helped shape their lives.

The group, known as the Nazareth Old Students Association (NOSA), has members across the United States and India. This reunion marked the first formal gathering of the association within the U.S. Sister Roselyn thanked everyone for making the journey and encouraged them to remember the mission and spirit of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.

Sister Roselyn reminded those gathered of the power each of us has to change the world. “The Sisters, this town, and our school are all part of us. Let this not be the end of our connection, but rather, a spark that leads to even greater things.”

On December 28, 1950, four Sisters from the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in Kentucky arrived to Gaya, India. Nazareth Academy was born in January 1951 and has been growing ever since. Today, the academy is known all over India and beyond. Its students have served in the armed forces, become doctors, lawyers, teachers, government officials, businessmen, scientists, engineers, and many other professions. Their success is a testament to the school’s commitment to fostering growth and prosperity.
