To celebrate the 140 years of services rendered by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP) in the City of Medellin (Colombia), a “National Vincentian Meeting” was held from September 23 to 25, three days of intense dialogs and reflections to analyze the quality of Vincentian actions in the past, and improve its performance in the future.
The venue selected to hold the meeting is the Archdiocesan Seminary “Redemptoris Mater,” where the Council General International held the 5th Ibero-American Meeting in 2012. The theme of the event is a phrase from St. Vincent de Paul: “Charity consists in loving our Lord and serving the poor with joy, enthusiasm, constancy and love.”
According to the president of the Medellin Particular Council, Brother José Luis Cadavid Aroca, the event brought together not only local Vincentian leaders, but also those from all over the country. The Superior Council used this opportunity to hold a meeting of its National Board of Directors, under the presidency of Brother Rafael Enrique Mora Navarro.
During the three-day event, has been liturgical celebrations, discussion groups, presentations, plenary sessions, workshops and moments of fraternal fellowship. Another highlight was the launching of two new videos, one institutional and the other testimonial, on the social and evangelizing work carried out by the members of Medellin.
The 16th International President General, Renato Lima de Oliveira, gave two online conferences: “Vincentian formation: a perspective from the General Council” and “Successful cases worldwide in processes of overcoming poverty.”
The SSVP of Medellin has 180 members in 25 Conferences.
