Daughters of Charity Services launches campaign to support disadvantaged young families at Christmas

Daughters of Charity Services has launched a new campaign – Make a Child’s Christmas – to raise money for young families in the UK who are struggling to meet basic needs. The funds raised will go towards the work of three projects within the Daughters of Charity Services group to relieve some of the financial and emotional burdens put on families over Christmas.

The three projects – St Vincent’s Family Project (London), Out There (Manchester) and The Louise Project (Glasgow) – provide support services to young families who are experiencing different forms of poverty or exclusion. Staff and volunteers at the projects have been working hard to deliver essential food hampers, distribute toys and lift the spirits of disadvantaged children in the lead up to Christmas.

Every year, thousands of parents rely on charity donations at Christmas to give their child a present who would otherwise go without. Other young families are forced to choose between buying a gift and adequately heating their homes to make ends meet.

The rising costs of living and recent cuts to Universal Credits means even more families have fallen below the poverty line. Donations made through Make a Child’s Christmas can help to provide underprivileged children with a hot meal, a suitable place to sleep and a visit from Santa this Christmas.
