“We the Peoples of the United Nations” are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the UN in 2020. At the end of the World War II, 51 countries came together in San Francisco, USA, to adopt the UN Charter on June 26, 1945. Officially, the UN came into existence on October 24, 1945 and this day is celebrated as the UN Day by people everywhere. The UN serves as a global forum where countries come together to discuss issues, problems of war and peace, protect human rights, deliver humanitarian aid, promote sustainable development and uphold international law. The Member States, 193 of them may be in the limelight at the UN, but the civil society members from around the world are integral to all the deliberations – the NGO networks do provide ideas to shape the policy decisions and resolutions through intense advocacy work. We are also partners, who uphold the values of the UN and implement its policies and programs at the grassroots. Though flawed, the UN is essential for global governance today. We have the power to shape the UN we want, do join the conversation to make your voice heard: https://www.un.org/en/un75
The official celebrations of UN75 is happening on September 21, 2020 at the UN. You are invited as part of “We the Peoples of the United Nations” to use the following prayer to envision a new, reformed and transformed UN. Click the image below to access the prayer.

Teresa, good reminder that the “UN though flawed” is essential, there is no alternative, and WE ARE the UN. Thanks!
