GRASS-ROOTS SURVEY

The Vincentian Family Team at the United Nations, as part of The Grass-Roots Committee, in collaboration with other NGO’s, is currently assessing how grassroots people view inequalities in their particular country or area. This assessment is being undertaken to help determine how the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) are being implemented in different countries or regions. The SDG’s were adopted by the United Nations at the 2015 General Assembly, with the goal they be achieved by the year 2030. This committee is in the process of conducting a world-wide survey of Grass-Roots peoples or individuals working directly with Grass-Roots populations to determine progress of lack of same concerning inequalities, since this goal was implemented in 2015. The survey questions were fashioned and distributed by committee members in six languages in order to provide more comprehensive results. The committee is currently analyzing responses and will give a report at a July side-event, High-Level Political Forum.

HIGH LEVEL POLITICAL FORUM (HLPF):

The Vincentian Family Team will participate at the High Level Political Forum (HLPF 2019) on Sustainable Development which will take place from July 9-16, 2019, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). As stated above Vincentian Family members, who are part of the Grass-Roots Committee, will sponsor a “Side-Event” during the HLPF.  People living in poverty, and recognized experts will make presentations. Additionally a report listing the results of the Grass-Roots  World-Wide Survey will be discussed and reviewed.

WORKING  GROUP TO END HOMELESSNES (WGEH):

In the Fall of 2017, the Vincentian Family Team under the direction of Fr. Guillermo Campuzano, began an initiative to address the problem of Homelessness. This undertaking is consistent with the Strategic Plan of the Vincentian Family, and since that time side-events have taken place and many positive things have occurred. In 2020, the Commission for Economic and Social Development will make Homelessness as the prime topic of the Commissions agenda.
