Depaul USA purchases Arsenal Street Buildings; Will Create St. Lazare House for Youth
June 2, 2017
St. Louis, MO – June 2, 2017: Community stakeholders gathered at 2912 Arsenal Street on June 14, 2017, at 11:00 am to celebrate Depaul USA’s purchase of two Arsenal Street buildings from the Western Province of the Congregation of the Mission (the Vincentians). Depaul USA will convert 2912 Arsenal Street into St. Lazare House. This new program is committed to ending youth homelessness and will offer 15 fully-furnished one-bedroom apartments to homeless young people aged 18 to 24.
With 24/7 care, St. Lazare House will treat the trauma that comes from being young and living on the streets. Residents will receive physical and behavioral health services, participate in education and training programs, and gain the life skills necessary to become independent and productive community members.
Depaul USA has received an exciting challenge grant from the Brown Sisters Foundation to support St. Lazare House’s day-to-day operation. By the end of 2017, Depaul USA needs $100,000 in pledges or gifts to meet the challenge grant.
Serving six US cities: Chicago, Little Rock, Macon, New Orleans, Philadelphia and St. Louis; Depaul USA is part of Depaul International, a worldwide family of charities working with people who are marginalized and homeless. Depaul USA is inspired by the values of Saint Vincent de Paul, a major social reformer in 17th Century France.
“I am excited that St. Louis homeless youth will soon have a place to call home.” Charles W. Levesque, President/Executive Director, Depaul USA
