Sr. Jacinta Prunty, an Irish sister of the Holy Faith Sisters, has devoted herself to advancing education and women’s rights in South Sudan, a nation grappling with significant social and economic challenges. Through her work with the Solidarity with South Sudan Teacher Training College (STTC), she has focused on training teachers and promoting gender equity. Her efforts have significantly increased female enrollment, with women now representing half of the college’s student body.
Operating in a male-dominated society, Sr. Jacinta has worked tirelessly to address cultural barriers and support women’s empowerment. She has developed leadership initiatives and safe spaces for women to thrive, emphasizing values of dignity, equality, and Catholic social teaching. Beyond education, her work has had a transformative impact on communities, equipping them with the tools to foster long-term stability and growth.
This mission underscores the power of education in addressing systemic inequality and highlights the critical role of women in rebuilding and uplifting societies.
