“Reborn to Hope” Project – Vincentian Marian Youth (VMY)

by | Jul 18, 2022 | News, Vincentian Marian Youth

Vincentian Marian Youth (VMY) is an association of lay young men and women, whose objective is to awaken consciences about the value and needs of other human beings, especially those men and women who are poor. Following the example of Mary, Saint Vincent de Paul and Saint Louise de Marillac, the members of the VMY are aware and concerned about the social problems and inequalities that have profound effects on the most disadvantaged members of society. Aware that justice and peace are the pillars of a fraternal and caring society, the members of the Vincentian Marian Youth (VMY) view their Vincentian mission from the perspective of those most in need. They develop local and regional activities for greater human development in Portugal and throughout the world.

Encouraged to reach out beyond their own borders, in recent years the VMY in Portugal has promoted projects on behalf of Missions ad gentes, sending several young volunteers to Mozambique where, in collaboration with the Company of the Daughters of Charity and the Missionaries of the Congregation of the Mission present in the city of Chókwè, they have ministered in various areas, such as Education, Health, Construction, Social and Pastoral Promotion. The “Open Hands – Mozambique” project has been a very important local instrument of human development, recognized as such by the people who have been served. As a result, the work that was begun, cannot now come to an end.

A new missionary call and challenge arises in Chirrundzo, where several children need the friendly and supportive hands of the members of the VMY. As a result of this appeal the project “Reborn to Hope” was established… a project that consists of sending missionaries to engage in volunteer work for short, medium and long duration of time (periods of 3-12 months). This project also includes direct financial support for the boarding and dining activities that are carried out at the “Renacer a la Esperanza” (Reborn to Hope) Social Promotion Center”. To develop and finance this project, several campaigns were created, which are explained below.

This is a project of hope, joy and mercy … a project of love that highlights the Vincentian charism that we bear within our heart.
