Vincentians in Partnership (VIP) presented at Citizens UK Election Assembly
Vincentians in Partnership (VIP) presented at  Citizens UK Election Assembly – Two members of VIP’s Justice Group, Marlene Burt (AIC) and Sr Margaret Brady (Daughters of Charity) represented Vincentians In Partnership at the Citizens UK Election Assembly on 4th May in London at the Methodist Central Hall along with 2,500 others, including 3 Party leaders. Both said they found the experience very moving. To date 8 councils have signed up to resettle refugees and 100 MPs have signed up to end indefinite detention.
On 19th June The Telegraph reported David Cameron had announced the UK would increase its quota of Syrian refugees by a few hundred more. Citizens UK have confirmed there will be an increase of 500 over 3 years which is a great move but there is still lots to do.
What is Citizens UK? From their website…
Citizens UK organises communities to act together for power, social justice and the common good.
We are the home of community organising in the UK, with diverse civil society alliances in London, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Birmingham, Wales and Leeds.
We develop the leadership capacity of our members so they can hold politicians and other decision-makers to account on the issues that matter to them.
Community organising is democracy in action: winning victories that change lives and transform communities.
