UN Commission on the status of women
The following appeared on the website of Congregation of the Mission/Daughters of Charity NGO at the United Nations.
The Commission on the status of women (CSW) is the dominant global intergovernmental body that targets the betterment of gender equality and the empowerment of women. In order to be most productive the Commission developed certain methods of work. These methods consist of addressing issues that are relevant to today’s ongoing struggle for the promotion and advancement of women and girls. The Commission also reflects back to previous panel discussions in order to keep growing and working on gender equality across policies and programs. Each year the agency gives feedback on the priority theme and the review theme in which they target a specific problem which then is given a solution.
The priority theme of this Commission is the “Elimination and Prevention of all Forms of Violence against Women and Girls.” The preparation work and complete background information for this effective Commission can be read on the Commission website: (http://www.un.org/womenwatch/daw/csw/57sess.htm)
