Vincentian Family in Japan
According to a search of the English international websites of some of the branches of the Vincentian Family in Japan the Daughters of Charity and the Congregation of the Mission have houses in Kobe City, Japan.
For those who wish to express solidarity please visit the Facebook page “Japan, you don’t stand alone” and express your solidarity.
- Daughters of Charity Provincial House in Kobe-Shi, Hyogo-Ken is well south of the earthquake and tsunami. There are currently 8 communities and some 75 Daughters working in this province.
- The Congregation of the MIssion has a house in Kobe City.
- The Society of St. VIncent dePaul is part of it East Asia territory and there seems to be no further information available in English

The Diocese of Sendai has a population of 10,944 baptised, representing 0.15% of the population (over 7.2 million) in the territory. The diocese has 53 parishes and 13 mission stations, served by 27 diocesan priests and 19 religious priests, five religious brothers and 262 sisters. Among the religious institutions in this diocese are the Dominicans (OP), the Society for Foreign Missions in Bethlehem (SMB), the Missionaries of Guadalupe (MG), and the Christian Brothers. Among the many women’s institutions there are the Dominican Sisters (OP), the Congregation of Notre Dame (CND), the Daughters of St Paul, the Ursuline Sisters, the Sisters of Charity of Jesus, Missionary Sisters of Christ the King and others. Ipray and ask the Lord to give strength hope and fortitude for the japanese and may all people of good faith help. My heart goes out to the Japanese people in their pains and sufferings due to the earthquake and the tsunami. I was so imprssed by the relatively orderly behavior of the Japanese during these days when many of them lost their loved ones and property. I was in Japan several times, a long time ago, and I can say that this must be a payoff of their disciplined life. Let us offer them our prayers and help. Fr.Rolando S.
