"God has moved into our neighborhood!"

“Look! Look! God has moved into the neighborhood, making his home with men and women…” Thus begins Fr. Aidan Rooney’s meditation on the Vincentian Vocation. This video is the featured video for the week.

This and other videos can be viewed in a larger size on the FAMVINGlobal and FAMVIN2007 channels on YouTube.

Remember that the Vincentian Encyclopedia has a page devoted collecting Vincentian related videos on the Internet. Registered users can add their own. Or you can mail links to John Freund.

Please note that as in the early stage of such collections their value is mixed.

Aidan Rooney makes the point near the end of this terrific video that the rules of the game need to be changed – that the deck is currently stacked against the poor. As just one small illustration of the truth of that observation, read some of the examples in this excerpt from Barbara Ehrenreich’s new book, “This Land is Their Land,” such as the fact that the poor pay more for things like car insurance and groceries. In the same spirit I would recommend “A Framework for Understanding Poverty” by Ruby Payne a leading expert on the Mindsets of people in poverty, the middle class and wealth.
I found it an eye opening insight into how different are the mental worlds of each group and consequently how they can use the same words with different meaning and the values they attach to friends, work, possessions, etc.
In effect she speels out the unwwritten codes of conduct clearly understood by everyone in a particular strata but not understood by those outside.
