YouTube and Vincentian Formation

John Freund, CM
November 25, 2007

As a result of the 12 week program in Paris renewal in the Vincentian charism one of the participants has developed a YouTube video that expresses his view of the four vows taken by members of the Congregation of the Mission. Members of other vowed branches of the Vincentian Family will immediately see how sucha presentation could be adapted for a presenation of their own vows and the words of their founders.

He also reports that, as a result of presentations made there recently by the famvin webmaster Beth Nicol, many of the participants are now using powerpoint to present their reflections on the program.

There are more and more presentations, movie clips and video reports available on YouTube realted to Vincentian family, founders , tradition and apostolate. But most of this posts are here and there. No order, no logic. Many YouTube users try to share their feelings, experiences and thoughts about St.Vincent and the Vincentian Family in various ways. THAT’S GREAT so many people around the world what to say how important St. Vincent is in the everyday life. But there are thousands and thousands of other people who do not know neither St.Vincent nor Vincentian tradition and charism.
Let’s create a Vincentian Community in YouTube! A virtual place where all those who want to express their feelings could place videos and presentations. A place where various Youtube users can put together their opinions and expressions. Let’s all of us Vincentian family members — users of YouTube — unite to make our voice and work stronger and effective.
If YouTube could be a new field of harvest Let’s ask the Lord of the Harvest to send His laborers to this harvest!
Diverted nobody would see us. United, under wise moderation everybody will have to respect.

I agree with your very much.
As a step in that direction I suggest you visit the Vincentian Encyclopedia page which I staarted about a month ago. It is dedicated to Vincentians and YouTube.
I would very much welcome people jumping in on that that organizing the material.

    Toma:

Have you set up a group yet? If so, post the info here so we can pass it on. If not, do you have a suggestion for a name? I can follow through on the setting up.

No, I haven’t. But I’m thinking about it. However, if someone more experienced could manage it I would feel more comfortable. I am not sure if I could do it properly, and only such actions are worth to be develeped.
We are talking about Vincentian tradition, Vincentian Spirit and Heritage. What about simple name derived from the motto: MISIT ME, FAMVIN. There are still people whom name of LAZARISTS is more familiar than Vincentians. Perhaps St.Lazaire?

I had started to make a FAMVIN group – just for consistency with the web domain – I’ve not finished up the form and submitted it yet. On the form it asks for keywords and you have given me some I can add.

The other question is Category – there is no religious or anything like that. The closest is Non-profits & Activism – that seems not too off the mark.

I will set it up – and if it’s all wrong, then delete and start over.

I assume once you have finished and submitted the form, you will post so that we all know the group has been set up.

FAMVIN seems to be perfect because of the web page. Non-profits & Activism looks close to perfect too. But didn’t you think PEOPLE & BLOGS will be good. It is better to place it in the space where already many satellites are cruising. People look around and for in common space to them.

Looking at your acts I think it is very time to start “fish” for the users inviting them to participate in the project
