Empowered by the Spirit
Editor’s Note: MISEVI is alive and active in 18 countries throughout the world. Each country adapts the mission to its own culture and needs. Our mission is to guide, animate, and support the missionary presence of the laity, especially in those countries and missions connected to the Vincentian Family.
We are also delighted to announce that our General Assembly, previously postponed due to COVID, will now take place from April 3-6, 2024, in the beautiful and vibrant country of Colombia.
Today you will read about MISEVI Lebanon’s recent Spiritual Retreat, encouraging and empowering the missionaries for the Vincentian mission.
As the disciples waited in the upper room for the presence of the Holy Spirit, so, too, did the missionaries of MISEVI Lebanon gather for spiritual renewal on May 27 and 28, 2023 at the House of the Lazarist Fathers (Mejdaya – Lebanon). Their spiritual encounter was led by Father Georges Maylaa, CM who shared insights about Biblical prayer, encouraging our relationship with the risen Christ and with our loved ones in order to witness the words of Jesus Christ in the Vincentian life, the Christian life.
The spiritual renewal for the members of MISEVI Lebanon included the following.
- Meditation and reflection by members of the Aintoura team.
- An activity for members to attend workshops emphasizing the foundations of the Vincentian spirit with a focus on living these values as missionaries in daily life.
- Encouragement of the daily life of missions and monthly formation meetings.
- Finally, following the consecration mass on the day of Pentecost, a ceremony was held in the presence of the Visitator Reverend Sr Laurice Obeid, the counselor of the missionary team Reverend Sr Caroline Yaacoub, Father Tony Fayad CM (MISEVI advisor), the National Manager Mrs. Antoinette Naoum, Lazarist Fathers, and members of the MISEVI team.
This spiritual renewal is reflective of Pope Francis’ call to be missionary disciples. As we wait in our upper rooms for the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, we members of MISEVI know that the Vincentian charism is actively lived by lay people who embrace the call of the Gospel by following Vincent’s words, “Go to the poor and you will find God.”
