Visit of Superior General Father Tomáz Mavrič to Brazil – Encounters with the FAMVIN Branches
Fr. Tomáz Mavrič, CM the Superior General, visited Brazil in May 2023 for a meeting with FAMVIN branches. This visit brought together many faithful from across the country and was a warmly welcomed occasion.
In Fortaleza (CE), Father Tomáz received a warm and joyful welcome. We shared the history of the Province of Fortaleza while listening to the song “Magnificat” by Mistura Divina, a pagode group made up of VMY members. Father Tomáz’s visit was met with a very warm reception by the people here.
On May 9, the Superior General arrived in Recife (PE) and, on May 10 at 9:00 am, he participated in a Mass at the church of Nossa Senhora das Fronteiras in Boa Vista, Recife. The Mass was presided over by Dom Fernando Barbosa from the Diocese of Palmares. On Thursday, May 11, Father Tomáz joined the Daughters of Charity for another Mass, celebrated by Dom Fernando Saburido from the Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife. During his visit to Recife, the priests and the Daughters of Charity also learned about the charity bus project.
In Belém (PA), Fr. Tomáz attended a Holy Mass and later joined a reception with FAMVIN branches, where he even danced the carimbó, a traditional dance of Pará.
On May 19, there was a gathering of the leaders from the Vincentian Family in Brazil at the Vincentian Faculty in Curitiba-PR. Father Tomáz Mavrič, CM, the Superior General of the Congregation of the Mission, attended the meeting. In his opening remarks, Father Tomáz stressed the significance of unity among the different branches of the Vincentian Family in Brazil. He also discussed the proposals for the 13 Houses Project and highlighted the upcoming 400th anniversary celebration of the Congregation of the Mission. Father Tomáz spoke about the global Vincentian Family Movement, which aims to reach out to more people and expand our Family by touching their hearts. Following his words, Father Edson Friedrichsen, CM, a member of the National Council of the Vincentian Family, presented the division of the 7 regions of the Vincentian Family in Brazil. The purpose was to seek autonomy for representatives who assist in the work of the Vincentian Family within each branch.
