A Daughter of Charity: The Oldest Living Person in the World

At times we find curious and journalistically attractive news. Here is such an item: a Daughter of Charity is right now the longest-living person in the world. Until now, the record was held by Kane Tanaka, a 119-year-old Japanese woman, but that good woman has just passed away, and therefore, the record has passed to the aforementioned Daughter of Charity who is 118 years old. This 100+ Daughter of Charity is called Sister André (religious name) … her given name is Lucile Randon. She was born in 1904 in Alès, France, into a Protestant family. However, she converted to Catholicism at age 19. She entered the Company of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul in 1940, at the age of 40. Since 2009, she has lived in the Saint Catherine Laboure nursing home in Toulon, France. Almost all of her life as a Daughter of Charity has been dedicated to childcare.On February 11, she turned 118. A month earlier, she tested positive for Covid-19, along with 80 other elderly women at the Residence, but she has had a complete recovery.

When asked about the secret for her longevity, she responds with a smile: prayer and a cup of hot chocolate every day. Sister André is generally well, although she has lost her vision and has to move about in a wheelchair

I was taught by the Sisters of Charity for seven years. We also had lay women that taught. This was in Donaldsonville La.
