SSVP Alive and Well in Scotland
SVDP alive and well in Scotland – Take 2000 members in  300 Conferences (groups), 28 schools and 3 universities.  That makes SSVP Scotland! Â
These members, who range from 8 years old (in Mini Vinnnies groups in primary schools) to around 80 years old in parish Conferences carry out all sorts of work to help people in their local communities, and further afield.
SSVP members aim to address need in many forms. People may need financial assistance, or they might be lonely or need some help with social opportunities. Â SSVP Scotland members run and volunteer at soup kitchens and food banks, visit nursing homes, hospitals and prisons, organise social clubs for people of all ages with disabilities and special needs (Ozanam Clubs)
Although vastly different in age, all of the members “seek to identify and combat all forms of poverty, by promoting social justice and actively working with those in need, acknowledging that, by freeing giving of ourselves, we become aware of the power of love in all our relationships” (SSVP International Manual and Rule)
They have a well-developed program for youth.
You can access our online calendar here to find out more about what the Youth Officer gets up to and what’s going on with the whole Youth SSVP Programme.
