Blessed Ghebre-Michael –

Ghebre-Michael was a disciple of Justin de Jacobis for many years, and eventually decided, with Justin’s consent, to become a Vincentian. A date was fixed for him to begin his internal seminary but when the fixed day arrived he was under arrest, and he died before he could carry out his intention. In a letter to the Superior General, Jean-Baptiste Etienne, Justin explained all this but said that he called Ghebre-Michael a Vincentian “because in his heart he already belonged to the Congregation”.

Fourth program of TV series on the Vincent dePaul Society

Program 4 will focus on how the Holy Spirit influenced St. Vincent and St. Louise, especially through the gift of Love. The program will also look at how the men women of the Baton Rouge Society of St. Vincent de Paul reflect that same Spirit today.
BEACONS OF LIGHT 2010, Program 4 premieres on CLTV (COX 15, Baton Rouge, LA) Sunday, August29 at 3:00 PM. It will air several times over the next two weeks at the following times: Monday 7:00pm Tuesday 1:00pm Wednesday 9:00pm Saturday 8:00pm.

Floods in Pakistan beyond the resources of the SSVDP

The situation in Pakistan is huge and complex and it is beyond the resources of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Pakistan to provide emergency relief services. We have been in contact with them. The Daughters of Charity and the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentian Fathers) are not involved either, as they have no presence in Pakistan otherwise we would team up with them.

The Spring 2010 issue of Australian Catholics, a Jesuit Publication, focuses on how technology is changing the way we campaign for social justice. It asks how can technology help us build a new Catholic community for the 21st century? It also reflects on “A national e-vent” – An innovative way to bring the Catholic community together and “Outside the Net” – Technology on the margins.
