The annual national assembly of the Ladies of Charity USA (LCUSA) is meeting in San Antonio, Texas on the eve of the arrival of Hurricane Ike. This morning Patricia Nava, past International President of the AIC, shared reflections on  “Women Working Together Against Poverty”

She received a standing ovation. Her presentation was video taped and this video and her powerpoint will soon be available on famvin.org as well as the new site of the Ladies of Charity USA. (This new site is still in beta testing.)

Due to the advent of hurrican Ike the banquet traditionally held on Saturday evening has been moved to Friday evening.

I attended the Ladies of Charity Assembly in San Antonio and it was a wonderful experience. One can learn a great deal and meet new and old friends. The speeches were outstanding and I am taking back much information to my association. Especially, on the speech given by Patricia De Nava and her slide presentation. Thanks San Antonio for doing such a great job!

The Ladies of Charity while attending their National Assembly in San Antonio reached out to the evacuees of Hurricane Ike. They sponsored a lunch for 100 individuals who sought shelter at the Holiday Inn Riverwalk, took up a collection for the purchase of much needed diapers and others responded to a call for volunteers at the local food bank. The words of so many inspirational talks were put into action.Like St. Vincent, they responded to the voice of God in the events of the day and found Christ in those they served. I was blessed to be amongst so many extraordinary women!

Over the next two weeks famvin will be making available podcasts of many of the excellent presentations at the Assembly.

This national assembly was a grand experience. It was especially nice to have a hotel so close to church and right on the River Walk. I thoroughly enjoyed this gathering and appreciate the effort by Texas Ladies of Charity to provide us with such an event. Thank you so much. Sadly, Hurricane Ike had to cast gloom, but at least we could do something directly for those families who had to leave their homes to escape its wrath.
Also, thanks to Fr. Freund and team for providing these fine articles for us.
