SCL Associates Reconnect and Reflect at Colorado Associate Days 2024
The “Colorado Associate Days 2024” event took place from July 19 to 21 at The Gardens at St. Elizabeth in Denver, Colorado, bringing together the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth (SCL) Associates. This gathering marked an important occasion for reflection, learning, and recommitment to the SCL mission. Participants, many of whom were reuniting after the COVID-19 pandemic, reconnected and shared personal updates while enjoying the setting of Denver’s skyline.
The event was filled with activities aimed at deepening the Associates’ understanding of their roles and responsibilities within the SCL community. Presentations from key figures like Rebecca Metz, Nick Keehler of the Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) Office, and John Shively, Executive Director of Mission, focused on themes of integral ecology. This concept highlights the interconnectedness of social, economic, and environmental issues, with an emphasis on the relationship between humanity and the Earth, as reinforced by Pope Francis’ “Laudato Si’.” John Shively’s presentation encouraged transparent, open discussions and emphasized the role of hope in the work of the SCL Associates.
The gathering concluded with a recommitment ceremony at the historic Christ the King Chapel. Afterward, participants reflected on their renewed dedication to advocacy, systemic change, and the care of creation. The event reinvigorated the Associates, preparing them to continue their mission of service with joy, gratitude, and a sense of purpose. Plans for future annual gatherings were also announced, extending to other regions such as Kansas, Missouri, and Montana.
