The Rosalie Projects: “Screenshot” Project
The “Screenshot” project was created to finance annual training in the digital field for 50 young people. It aims to maintain and supplement existing computer equipment, finance the trainers’ salaries, and ensure a reliable electricity network to provide the best possible level of learning for students.
“La Jeunesse en Chaine Pour le Développement (JCD)” (“Youth Chain for Development”) is one of the fruits of the congregation of the Daughters of Charity on mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was created in 2016 in Kinshasa to offer professional training to unemployed young people excluded from the workforce.
“As soon as we received the funds last July, we bought various equipment– except the digital camera and accessories because that was much more expensive than the original estimate.” – Sr. Wivine Kisu
When the training sessions were about to begin during the school holidays, several events slowed down the implementation of the project:
– heavy rains in August in Kinshasa damaged the roof of the building where all the computer equipment and accessories were stored. The repair work took time, which is why the project didn’t start until early 2024.
– due to frequent power outages, the training could only take place in the morning (Sr. Wivine: We repaired the generator we had, three times.)
– the city was faced with a rash of kidnapping during the electoral period of December 2023. Fears of kidnapping forced many students to stay at home.
“At this time, we only have 25 beneficiaries for the morning training sessions, due to power outages which prevented training the other 25 beneficiaries in the afternoon.”
“But it is with great joy that I, on behalf of the JCD, express our sincere thanks for the very valuable help provided to this group of unemployed and impoverished young people who will benefit from computer training at the Marie Center Bernard. In a city with an unemployment rate of 38%, it is important and necessary to support young people to be independent by learning or doing certain jobs.
Thank you very much for the support that you and the Rosalie Projects team provide to our most deprived brothers and sisters.” – Sr Wivine Kisu
