Images of Hope: Carriages Left at a Train Station in Poland
Since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, more than two million Ukrainians have fled the country, many of them children.
Unnamed Polish mothers staged a beautiful gesture captured by photojournalist Francesco Malavolta: several carriages lined up with blankets on the platform of the Przemyśl Główny train station. These items were donated by Polish mothers so that Ukrainian mothers would be able to have a safe and warm place to carry their babies when they arrive in their country in search of refuge.
They say that war brings out the worst in human beings, but it also bring out the best. A clear example is this simple gesture by Polish mothers, as well as so many other signs of solidarity that are being seen in favor of those most affected by the conflict in Ukraine.
