CVV Attends Bold Women Change History Event

We had the privilege of hearing Dr. Carlotta Walls LaNier, the youngest of the Little Rock Nine, share her story as part of the Bold Women Change History series at the History Colorado Center. ⠀
The Little Rock Nine were the first Black students to attend classes at Little Rock Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Dr. Carlotta Walls LaNier was the first Black woman to graduate from this school, propelling the American Civil Rights movement forward and testing the decision of the Brown v. Board of Education case, which stated that segregation in public schools was unconstitutional. ⠀
Part of our formation this year is to have continuing conversations about racial justice, better understand how racial and ethnic identifies are deciding factors of power & privilege (or lack thereof) in society, and to both lament with our brothers & sisters of color and actively work for systemic change, so that every person is regarded with the dignity & honor they deserve as human beings. ⠀
It was a joy to hear Dr. Carlotta Walls LaNier share her story!
