Act according to God’s time, not your own, advises St. Vincent de Paul

Recently this video called “One thing you need to learn from St. Vincent de Paul” was posted on YouTube:

For those who are interested, the book that Father mentions is “The Holiness of Vincent de Paul” by Jacques Delarue; English translation by Suzanne Chapman. It was first published in France, under the title “Sainteté de Monsieur Vincent”.

Along the same lines, Fr. Hugh O’Donnell, C.M. wrote:

One of the significant differences between the two [St. Vincent and St. Louise] was that Louise was in a hurry; Vincent was not. Her lively and energetic temperament inclined her to act quickly. Vincent often told her to wait for Providence, not to tread upon its heels. “Mon Dieu, my daughter what great hidden treasures there are in holy Providence and how marvelously Our Lord is honored by those who follow it and do not try to get ahead of it!” [St. Vincent de Paul, CCD Vol. 1, p. 59]

Another saying attributed to St. Vincent is

“Do the good that presents itself to be done.”
